About Document Scanner

Everything a scanner app does, in your browser. Take a photo of the page, drag the four corners onto the edges of the document, and the tool straightens the perspective for you. The magic colour filter makes the page clean and white with dark, sharp text — just like a real scanner. Add page after page and download the whole thing as one PDF.

How to scan a document with your phone — step by step

  1. Put the document on a flat surface in good light and photograph it from directly above, or upload photos you have already taken.
  2. The tool finds the edges of the page and straightens it, so a photo taken at an angle comes out square.
  3. Choose a mode — colour for photos and cards, greyscale for mixed pages, black & white for plain text and signatures.
  4. Add more pages if the document has several. They stay in the order you added them.
  5. Download the finished scan as a PDF, or as JPG images in a ZIP.

A phone photo is not a scan

Photograph a page and you get a picture of a page: taken at a slight angle, with the shadow of your own hand across it and a grey cast where the paper should be white. Offices reject these, and they are three or four times larger than they need to be.

Scanning fixes the geometry and the colour. The page is squared up so the edges are parallel, the paper is pushed to white, and the text is pushed to black. The result looks like it came off a flatbed scanner, and the file is a fraction of the size.

Getting a clean capture

Which mode for which document

ModeBest for
ColourAadhaar and PAN cards, certificates with seals, photographs, anything where the colour carries information
GreyscalePages that mix text and photos, older documents with yellowed paper
Black & whitePlain printed text, handwritten notes, signatures. Gives the smallest file by far

Black & white can be harsh on a faint photocopy — if letters start dropping out, switch to greyscale.

After you have scanned

Scans of several pages usually want to become one file: Merge PDF joins them. If a portal has an upload limit, Compress PDF brings the size down. And if you want to copy the words out of the scan rather than just look at them, Image to Text reads them.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as a scanner app?

It does the same job — perspective correction, magic colour, black & white filter and multi-page PDF. The difference is that there is no app to install and your photo never leaves your device.

Which filter should I choose?

Magic colour for a coloured page or a bill. Black & white for plain text notes — it also gives the smallest file.

How many pages can I add?

As many as you like. Each page shows as a preview and you can remove any of them with ✕.

Are my documents uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole scan is processed by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, which is the reason this tool exists rather than one of the scanner apps that upload everything.

Do I need to install an app?

No. It runs on the web page in your phone or computer browser.

How many pages can I scan into one PDF?

As many as you need. Very long documents simply take longer, because the work is done by your own device.

The edges were not detected properly.

That usually means the page did not contrast with the surface underneath. Move it onto a darker table and take the photo again.

Can I scan a book page?

Yes, though the curve near the spine will stay curved. Press the page as flat as you can. If you photographed two pages at once, Split Pages in Half will separate them.

Is the quality good enough for a government upload?

Yes for the vast majority of portals. Use colour mode for identity documents, since some offices insist on seeing the colour of a seal or signature.
