About Split / Extract PDF

Often you do not need the whole PDF — just two or three pages, like your result page from a fifty-page booklet. Type a page range (for example 1-3,7) and download the new PDF straight away. The other mode gives you every page as a separate PDF inside a ZIP.

How to split a PDF or extract pages — step by step

  1. Upload the PDF.
  2. Choose a mode: pull out a range of pages, or turn every page into its own file.
  3. For a range, type the pages you want — for example 1-3,7,10-12.
  4. Download the new PDF, or the ZIP if you split every page.

Writing a page range

Use commas for individual pages and dashes for runs: 1-3,5,9-12 gives you pages 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 10, 11 and 12. To run to the end of the document, leave the second number off — 9- means page 9 onwards.

These are positions in the file, not the numbers printed on the pages. If a book's page 1 is the fourth sheet in the PDF, ask for page 4.

What people actually split out

Splitting to get under an upload limit

If you are splitting only because the file is too heavy, Split by File Size is the better tool — it works out the page breaks so each part lands under the megabyte limit you set. Or try shrinking it first with Compress PDF, which often removes the need to split at all.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write a page range?

Use commas and dashes: 1-3,5,9-12. To go to the last page, write 9- and leave the end open.

What if I want every page separately?

Choose 'Every page as a separate PDF (ZIP)' — all the files arrive in a single ZIP.

Does it damage the original file?

Not at all. Your original stays exactly as it is; a new copy is created.

Does the original file change?

No. A new file is created and your original is untouched.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your browser.

Can I get every page as a separate file?

Yes — choose that mode and they all arrive together in a single ZIP.

Do the extracted pages keep their quality?

Yes. Pages are copied exactly, with no recompression.

Can I split by chapter?

Not automatically. Find the page numbers each chapter starts on and extract those ranges.
