About Edit PDF

A full PDF editor inside your browser. Click any text that is already in the document and type over it — the font, size and background colour are matched automatically, so names, amounts and dates can be corrected in seconds. You can also add fresh text, drop in a photo or signature, white out a mistake, highlight a line or scribble with the pen. Every page is edited separately and one Save button gives you the finished PDF. There is even an option that wipes the old text out of the file completely.

How to edit a PDF — step by step

  1. Upload the PDF you want to change.
  2. Click any line of existing text and type over it — the tool matches the font, size and background so the correction blends in.
  3. Add new text, images or a white box to cover something, using the toolbar.
  4. Draw or highlight if you need to mark the page up.
  5. Download the edited PDF.

Editing text that is already in the PDF

Most free PDF tools only let you type a new box on top of the page. This one reads the text that is already there, so you can click a wrong date, a misspelt name or an old address and simply retype it. The tool samples the colour behind the line and the font it was set in, so the replacement sits where the original did rather than looking pasted on.

It works best on ordinary documents with plain fonts. Heavily designed pages, unusual embedded fonts and text printed over photographs are harder, and there the result may not match perfectly — check before you send the file anywhere.

What you cannot edit

If your PDF is a scan — a photograph of a page — there is no text inside it to edit. Clicking a word will do nothing, because to the file it is not a word, it is part of a picture. Cover it with a white box and type over it instead, or run Image to Text to read the page and rebuild it.

Reflowing paragraphs is also outside what any PDF editor does well. A PDF fixes every character in place; making a sentence longer will not push the rest of the paragraph down. For heavy rewriting, PDF to Word and a word processor is the honest answer.

Removing text properly

A white box hides text visually, but the original characters are still in the file and can be recovered by anyone who knows how. If you are hiding something that genuinely matters — an account number, an address — tick the safe-mode option, which rebuilds the edited pages as images so the old text is gone from the file entirely.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really change text that is already in the PDF?

Yes. Switch on 'Edit existing text', click the line you want and type. To delete a line, clear it and leave it empty.

Can the old text still be found in the file?

By default the old text stays hidden underneath and could be revealed by copying the page. Tick 'Wipe the old text out of the file completely' and it is removed for good.

Does it work with Hindi?

Yes, Hindi and other scripts are placed correctly in the PDF.

Can I add a signature?

Yes — use the Image button for a photo of your signature, or draw one in the Sign PDF tool.

Is my document uploaded anywhere?

No. The editing runs in your browser and the file stays on your device.

Can I edit a scanned PDF?

Not the text itself, because there is none. Cover and retype, or use Image to Text first.

Will the font match exactly?

Usually close. Common fonts match well; unusual embedded fonts may not.

Can I edit Hindi text?

Yes. Devanagari is drawn as an image behind the scenes so it appears correctly, though it cannot then be re-selected as text.

Can I delete a whole page?

Use Delete PDF Pages for that — it is quicker.

Does it work on my phone?

It does, but precise clicking on small text is fiddly. A computer is easier for real editing.
