About Sign PDF

Signing a form or an agreement no longer needs the print-sign-scan routine. Draw your signature here (with a finger on a phone) or upload a photo of it — the white background is removed automatically. Then click where you want it on the page.

How to sign a PDF — step by step

  1. Upload the PDF you need to sign.
  2. Draw your signature with a finger or mouse, or upload a photo of your signature on paper.
  3. Place it on the page and drag it to the right spot, resizing as needed.
  4. Add a date or initials elsewhere on the document if the form asks for them.
  5. Download the signed PDF.

Getting a clean signature image

Drawing with a finger on a phone works, but a photographed signature usually looks better. Sign in black ink on plain white paper, photograph it from directly above in daylight, and crop tightly to the signature.

If the paper comes out grey rather than white, run the photo through the Document Scanner in black & white mode first. It pushes the background to clean white so the signature sits on the document without a grey box around it.

Is an image of a signature legally valid?

In India, the Information Technology Act recognises electronic signatures, and for a great many everyday purposes — internal forms, applications, letters, self-attested copies — a scanned or drawn signature placed on a PDF is accepted in practice.

It is not the same thing as a digital signature certificate (DSC), the cryptographic kind issued by a licensed certifying authority and used for company filings, GST and tenders. Those are legally distinct and cannot be produced by any website. If a document specifically demands a DSC or an Aadhaar-based eSign, this tool is not what you need. For anything of real legal weight, take advice rather than relying on a web page — we are not lawyers.

Self-attesting copies

Many Indian applications ask for self-attested photocopies: your signature across the copy with the date. Scan the document, place your signature and add the date, and you have a self-attested copy without a trip to the photocopy shop. Some offices want the signature to overlap the edge of the printed content — place it accordingly if that is what you have been told.

Stopping the signature being copied out

Anyone can lift an image out of a PDF. If you are sending a signed document onward and want the signature harder to reuse, run the finished file through Flatten PDF, which merges everything into the page so there is no separate image to extract. It is not real security, but it stops casual copying.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a legally valid signature?

It is a drawn or scanned signature image, the same as printing, signing and scanning. Many places accept it, but where a DSC or Aadhaar eSign is required, this is not enough.

Is the background removed?

Yes, a white background becomes transparent automatically.

Can I sign in more than one place?

One place at a time. Upload the signed file again to add another signature.

Does my signed document get uploaded?

No. The signature is placed on the PDF by your browser, on your device. Neither the document nor your signature is sent anywhere — which is exactly what you want for a signature.

Is my signature saved for next time?

No. Nothing is stored. Keep the photo of your signature on your own device and upload it each time.

Can I sign on more than one page?

Yes. Place a signature on each page that needs one.

Can I add the date as well?

Yes — add it as text and position it wherever the form expects.

Is this a digital signature certificate?

No. A DSC is a cryptographic certificate from a licensed authority, used for company filings and tenders. This places a picture of your signature on the page.

Can I sign a scanned document?

Yes, exactly the same way. The signature sits on top of the scanned page.
